Competitions

Lindy Focus is a celebration of Swing music and dancing, and a competitive spirit is definitely one aspect of that, but this year we have decided to mix it up a bit.

Our main contests this year will all be "late-night, underground" style contents. That means no sign ups, no numbers, and almost* no rules. Get on the floor and dance your butt off.

If you are newer to competing: check out the newcomer mix and match. It's designed for folks who are newer to competing and we'll make sure to walk you through every step of the process.

And remember, after everything:  Competitions are a celebration of killer dancing, nothing more.

Newcomer Mix and Match

12-31: Prelims at 5p & Finals at 10:15p

The Newcomer Mix and Match is the perfect contest if you are newer to dancing and competing. This contest is reserved for dancers who have never made finals of a contest before and are newer to competing. Please don't be a sandbagger. If you are worried you may be sandbagging, please ask us.

Buff Deer Competitions

This year at Lindy Focus, we are taking our contests back to basics. No numbers, no heats, no scoresheets, and no time to waste. All you have to do to enter these contests is get on the floor and dance. Once the judges have narrowed it down to a final few, we will invite the band onstage to play one final song for all the glory.

What time? Every night, just after the first late night band set (approx. 1:30 AM)

12-27:  Balboa to Charlie Christian

It's Balboa, get on the floor and "Show me Something!"

12-28:  Solo Jazz to Duke Ellington

You can do just about any dancing you want as long as you don't have a partner.

12-29:  Lindy Hop Contest to Count Basie

We had to put Lindy Hop on Count Basie night. Obviously.

12-30:  Slow Dance to Louis Armstrong

Look, let's be real: we aren't going to nitpick about styles here.  Dance slow and do you.

12-31:  The Nevermore Challenge

*How well can you play by the rules? Prizes await the victors, but beware… St Louis watches.
