The Lindy Hop, Balboa, Blues, and Jazz Dance Camp and New Year's Party - Dec 26, 2019 to Jan 1, 2020
Ryan Swift - Head DJ (New York, NY)
Ryan has been swing dancing since 1998 and started DJing for dancers shortly thereafter. He is the co-organizer, music coordinator and house DJ for Frim Fram Jam, the longest-running weekly swing dance in NYC.
He has had the privilege of DJing for numerous Lindy Hop exchanges, dance camps, weekend workshops, and competitions, including national events such as the International Lindy Hop Championships, Stompology, Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown & Frankie100, and at NYC events like Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night Swing. He has also served as head DJ at events like LindyFest & Lindy Focus.
Ryan was a founding member of Rochester's Groove Juice Swing, is an accomplished photographer, and is the creator and host of the popular swing dance podcast The Track.
Nick Davis (Eugene, OR)
Nick Davis began dancing in 1998 and discovered Lindy Hop in 2002. After founding Eugene's Track Town Swing in 2012, Nick has traveled around the globe to hone his dancing skills. He was the 2014 Frankie Manning Foundation Ambassador to Herräng Dance Camp in Sweden. Since then, he has become part of the Frankie Manning Foundation and is actively involved in shaping the future of the global swing dance scene. Nick can be found teaching in his home scene or DJing at events like Camp Jitterbug, Lindy Bout, Midwest Lindy Fest, or Herrang Dance Camp. He enjoys the work and believes that bringing people together through the joy of Lindy Hop is his true life calling.
Meghan Gilmore (Montreal, QC, CAN)
Meghan is a Canadian lindy hopper with a great passion for the music that makes us all want to swing out, just the way they did back at the Savoy. She loves the sounds of the big bands and musicians of the swing era like our friends Count Basie, Earl Hines and Erskine Hawkins among many others. Her favourite Lionel Hampton song is Till Tom Special. You may have danced to her sets at recent events such as Herräng Dance Camp, ILHC, and of course at Lindy Focus!
Shana Worel (Altadena, CA)
Shana’s passion for music predated her love of swing dance. Growing up, classical piano, marching band and jazz band occupied her time, giving her a musician’s perspective on creating and interpreting music. This directly affects the music that she plays as a DJ and the way that it influences her dancing.
She is a sought-after DJ, and has been featured at All Balboa Weekend, Lindy Focus, California Balboa Classic, Lindy on the Rocks, The Balboa Experiment, Rocky Mountain Balboa Blowout and many other events. She loves talking about music and helping new DJs learn, so ask her a question. Or ten. Or fifteen if they’re about Lionel Hampton.
She’s also a rocket scientist by day. But she’d rather talk about Lionel Hampton.
Nicole Zuckerman (NY, NY)
Nicole is a US-based lindy hopper and DJ. She spins tunes regularly at the 9:20 Special in San Francisco, Frim Fram Jam in New York City, and can also be found behind the DJ booth at events like ILHC, Swing Out New Hampshire, and Herrang Dance Camp. Nicole loves playing music you can’t help but swing out to, from songs played at the Savoy to the great bands playing live today. Her jams include Johnny Hodges, Soul, blackberry, and finding new-to-her recordings that get the dance floor jumping.
Marjorie Bartell (Philadelphia, PA)
Marjorie is a Philadelphia native and has been DJing local Blues, Lindy, Soul, and Balboa events for about a year now. She has been dancing blues for around 2 years. Her true love is Ballroomin’ blues, but she has a fine appreciation for all blues genres.
Andi Hansen (Grand Rapids, MI)
Andi lives and dances in Grand Rapids, DJing there and wherever else she can get her hands on an aux cord. Her musical comfort foods are delta and Chicago blues, and she loves sharing those and other styles with the dance floor. Whether she's starting the party or playing some nice chill music, her mission is to help you enjoy yourself, and maybe even find some new favorite songs.
Kenneth Shipp (St. Louis, MO)
Kenneth has been spinning tunes for well over a decade, creating breakdance mixes from his dad's vinyl collection to DJing hip hop / break competitions in college. After falling in love with blues in 2014, he’s spent the past few years learning and diving into the wide variety of blues styles and history. Kenneth aims to get you grooving and moving every time you step out onto the dance floor. He loves playing with your faves while also showcasing the soul/blues legends from his hometown of Nashville and his new home of St. Louis.
