(2 hours with Hillary-Marie) An all-levels welcome small group class in which students have the option to demonstrate their dancing for the instructor as a jumping off point for instruction for everyone. Topics can easily include technique, practice strategies, self-assessment, styling, improv, and more. There is something to be gained here for all experience levels, and you will leave class with layers of new insight!
(2 hours with Nikki) Burleqsue is a vintage form of entertainment whose roots of course pre-date the jazz age, but which experienced a very comfortable flowering of creativity and popularity during that time, and is enjoying a huge resurgence today. If you've ever seen a Burlesque show and thought "I couldn't do that...", it's time to prove yourself wrong.
(2 hours with Julie and Dan) A common question with regular workshop-takers is how one retains the skills learned in class, and how to continue to grow outside of class. This session is all about developing your own methods of improvement that you can use to improve your dancing on your own!
(2 hours with LaTasha) Magical performances rarely happen without solid planning, but many people neglect the technical skills that can make choreographed performances rise to their brilliant potential. LaTasha will teach you some of the crucial craft of choreographing that will make your work truly professional.
(2 hours with Kelly) Practice makes perfect! Why put yourself on the spot to come up with something creative every time you social dance, when you can submit to this cram session of dazzling follower ideas? Get your favorite new stylings up to speed and ready to deliver on the dance floor that night!
(2 hours with Jenna and Jon) Learn techniques and timings for basic lifts, jumping, landing, falling and spotting. Additionally, you will work on the knickerbocker and pancake, with stopping points to go as far as you are comfortable with! Partner required and each person must register individually. Attendance at first session required for second session.
(2 hours with Jenny and Christian) Learn an original St. Louis Shag routine by Jenny and Christian and with the option to perform with the class at a camp meeting during Lindy Focus! This class will move quickly--you should be comfortable social dancing Shag basics and variations at quick tempos and come ready for a challenge!
(2 hours with Mike) What Is Blues? This class will be a discussion of the history, aesthetics, and current state of blues dancing, and what blues really is (and isn't). We will talk about what some of the blues idiom dances are, what some of the families are, what exactly *is* an aesthetic, and then a positive compare-contrast with qualities that separate blues dances from other swing-related genres.
(2 hours) Do you bore yourself when dancing solo jazz? Do you need a wild infusion of ideas and inspiration? This is the class for you! We will take you through a set of ideas that is first and foremost FUN, getting you to shake off your baggage and begin to create new greatness in your dancing.
(2 hours with Evita) Did you know that there is vintage Latin-influenced swing music? How do you dance to it?? Evita will show you the way, introducing a style that takes you in different aesthetic directions from your typical jazz class, through figures that are somewhat familiar, but challenging in a whole new way!
(2 hours with Jenny and Christian) Now that you have a foundation in the basics of STL Shag, we'll work on growing your vocabulary, adding in some flair, and explore how to use St. Louis Shag to create your own unique rhythms and shapes. Prereq: Crash Course or equivalent experience.
(6 hours with Kelly and Mickey) If you've begun to fall in love with this dance, and think you may even be turning into a "Balboa Person", this immersive series is your chance to put that passion to the test. All topics are fair game; Kelly and Mickey will use this extensive block of time to analyze the group and take you deep into the process of truly owning your Bal. (note: this is not "just for masters", it is an in-depth series created to bring you closer to mastering the dance!)
(6 hours with Jo) That's right, an all-out, hold-nothing-back, off the deep-end competition training sesh with one of the most successful Lindy Hop competitors ever. Jo will break up the time into different competition divisions, and the strategies and training methods she uses for each one. Whether you're a seasoned competitor or just getting into it, this would be a crazy series to miss!
(6 hours with Mike, Dan, and Julie) This is a nearly full-length track created for those blues dancers who want to wholly immerse themselves in the style, and walk out a different dancer than you were when you walked in. (note: this is not "just for masters", it is an in-depth series created to bring you closer to mastering the dance!)
(6 hours with LaTasha) Okay, this isn't truly 6 hours about jumping into the jam circle, but by the end of this series, you WILL be dying to get in there! Learn from one of the most exciting and original jazz dancers out there in this in-depth study of your own dancing that is sure to level you up!
(2 hours with Gaby and Nathan) Charleston is forever connected to Lindy Hop both historically and culturally, but as a student you don't always get the chance to truly learn it as a dance, rather than in bits and peices attached to your Lindy Hop.
